Super Bloom Part 6 -- We go local again

We noticed this blazing hillside when we returned from Carrizo.  It was right off highway 178 and the PCT runs through the flower field.  It is also 15 minutes from our house.  It doesn't get more convenient than that.  We went out in the howling wind for a short hike, and then back again with friends, Gina, Shawn, Amy and Brian for further exploration.

Can you find the red mite?

On our further exploration hike we bagged Peak 5952', which we didn't even know was a thing until we found a peak register.  I had always wanted to go as it is the high point you see from the PCT as you head north out of Walker's Pass.

We discover the creature making the odd noise was a young ground squirrel.

The view from the top.

Scodie Peak, our adventure for the final part of this blog.

Tidy tips

Amy and Gina looking back at Brian and Bob.

We stopped to investigate an old mine on the way out.

We misunderstood Gina.  We thought she had tried to get to Scodie Peak, but hadn't made it, so we decided to head there via Cow Heaven Canyon and invite our crazy hiking friends along.  I had been there once, or at least close to the top, more than twenty years ago.  I remembered how horribly steep it was, but figured we could do it for Gina. Imagine my surprise when we finally got to the top and Gina said, that she had already been there.  What???  We climbed all the way up here for nothing???  Gina thought she was going to keep us company.  Oh well, we can add it to the list to do again in another twenty years as we all agreed it was a serious death march.

Our death march goal for the day.
That peak in the background has a number, guess where we will go one of these days?

This was tricky rock traverse.

Owen's Peak, and Peak 5952

Bacchus Peak, this is another death march and Gina wants to do it.

We started way down on that dirt road.

If you look very closely there are four people in this photo.
