Blanco Mountain
Many moons ago our friend Chris suggested that Blanco Mountain in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest might make a nice cross country hike. When I was looking for something new to do, I decided to investigate. I put together a nice loop utilizing roads, what were once mining roads, and random cross county pieces to bag the peak and view several old prospects and cabins. This is of course not the most direct route. In fact, I managed to add a good 1500 feet of elevation change to the day's climbing. Bob's comment at the end was that I had created the only loop route in history that was uphill all the way. Sometimes it did feel that way.

Survey marker, and it is not the USGS, it is the Corp of Engineers. Haven't seen that before. |

The most interesting cabin we found along our route. It had carvings on the door lintels. |
