Bob and I next did one
of our short off trail loops. Coming in at less than eight miles, it is
always amazing how long it can take when you are spending the day boulder
hopping. Spring is definitely over, but a few flowers are hanging on among the autumn leaves.
Having had so much fun in Yosemite
with Chris, Bob and I headed back two days later. We did some exploring
and ended up on a ridge above May Lake. This turned out to be another
hike with breath taking views. It is also another short but time
consuming one and we ended up home well after when we should have been sleeping.
We have been noticing that Red-breasted Nuthatches have moved into the area in big numbers. Looks like an invasion year for this vocal species.

Tyee Lake
After three days of hard hiking we
were ready for a break. The weather said hike today, tomorrow won't be
pleasant. So, we headed up to Tyee Lake with Hikin' Bill. It was
all we could do to make it to the lake. Yep, 2.5 miles was almost beyond
us today. Fortunately, there were enough autumn leaves to provide plenty
of excuses for stopping. Once at the lake we had lunch at the near end,
then walked a hundred yards to the other end and had another lunch break.
Now that was pleasant.
