Eastern Sierra Early Autumn

I know, I know, why haven't we been posting lately?  Well mainly because we have been hiking fools.

The season in the high country is short and we have been getting in as many hikes as we can.  So, when did I write this, on a day off of course.  We had to take one, our legs are shot and the wind it is a blowing.  So, with that it is time to look at some pretty places.

Bristlecone Pine Forest

We head back to the Bristlecones with friends Allison and Tom who had never been!  I know, that is crazy talk, but they do live two days drive away.  It was a lovely day and we saw 25 species of birds.  Not too shabby for 10,000 feet elevation.  We were amazed at the number of house finches as we had never seen so many at that elevation.  The currants were also in fruit which helped with our species count.

Smoke, from one of the few fires this year, is visible on the left of the photo.

Bob's fall favorite, rabbitbrush (sneeze).

Bristlecone cones are a sticky mess.

We did one of our favorite all day adventures with Hikin' Bill.  Loads of beautiful mountains, but at 17 miles, we had to keep moving.  Well, either that or we would have been hiking in the dark on both ends.  Yes, we started in the dark, but made it out before the sun set.

Look, it is sunrise.

Sand Canyon

In between our mountain trips we did a couple trips in the desert to fill eBird gaps.  Some days the desert is just wow.

We headed back to Yosemite with Chris for a fall classic -- beautiful mountains and the hints of fall.

It is hard to take photos in the dark.  Bob and Chris.
