Near Bishop are the spectacular Mt. Emerson and Mt. Humphreys. We've hiked and snowshoed many times in the lower country, but the higher elevations still needed exploring. It's trail-less country and really doesn't look like much on the map, with few areas obviously conducive to camping on a multi-day adventure. But what the heck, closer views of these peaks looked worth the effort. We gave it a go for a few days of exploration. The hiking was challenging at times, and quite easy at others. The views in the two small canyons we explored rivaled many in the Sierra. And the flowers... Have we mentioned that it's a spectacular flower year?!eBird list 1

Now that's scenery! Crikie. Makes me ashamed to have asked anyone go for a hike in Nevada County.
