We Won! and I Almost Blew It.

Every year our friend Gina reminds us to apply for the special hikes in our local area.  Every year we do, and we don't win.  Woe is us.  This year was looking the same, we applied, but no happy winner email.  Gina, Bob McG, and I were all discussing this and Bob told us he got to go this year.  We were happy for him, but disappointed for us.  This was Monday, then on Wednesday, I was looking in my spam folder and there it is -- the email saying you have been selected and you have 48 hours to confirm.  Oh no, am I too late?  I hastily sent the confirmation email and got back an email saying we were good to go.  Yippee!!!  Boy was that close.

We were going hiking to see ancient, 3-5 million year old, animal footprints, in a beautiful area.  The hike was so lovely, I would have been happy to do it even without the footprints.

These are fossilized horse footprints.

Fossilized mud

Fossilized cat footprints

Fossilized bird foot prints

Fossilized mastodon foot prints

  1. So great that you got to go up there. I'm actually surprised that people w/o permits hadn't trashed the area.

  2. I believe that's the same hike I went on years ago. It was incredible. Glad the footprints are so far out of reach of most people. And, yes, it IS beautiful there. So much naked geology to look at!
