The Desert Blooms

My expectations for desert flowers this year were very low.  Mostly that has been true, but we have stumbled across a few amazing patches where the rain and sun combo was just right.  We also stumbled across an area with amazing patches of flowers.  We went there twice this week!

  1. Gorgeous photos! I can identify most of these flowers, but just would've liked to know WHERE they were taken! We do most of our wildflowering from the roads, but it looks as if there aren't any roads here, so you must have been on a trek by foot, or else you have a telephoto lens on your camera!

    1. These are all from various spots in canyons on the east side of the Sierra in the Indian Wells Valley. All are far from roads. We hike a lot. :-)

    2. If you want flowers from the car and are near Ridgecrest try hiway 178 near Walker Pass and Nine Mile Road (the road to Kennedy Meadows). No poppies that we saw but lots of coreopsis and desert dandylion.
