Lake Sabrina

Bob decided to head to the meadow this morning to bird, while I figured I could use some exercise.  So, I headed up to Lake Sabrina.  The road from Aspendell is open now for the fisherman, so I boulder hopped up the old road.  Along the way I had very nice looks at a Townsend's Solitaire and the snow covered mountains.  While we did get about 6" of snow, it did not last long and by the time I got back it was basically gone below 9000'.  The Lake Sabrina water situation is still pretty dismal, but they did open the boat shop, so maybe they are hoping for an improvement.  I had a Mountain Bluebird up by the dam and unfortunately a Eurasian Collared-Dove just below.  I've seen the dove in the area before, so I fear they are breeding there.  They are certainly hardy; no wonder they are so successful.

Cardinal Mine site

On the way back I decided to explore the old Cardinal Mine ruins.  I've been there once before, but it was several years ago.  This time I wandered around more of the site and passed by what may have been an old entrance to the mine.  It certainly smelled of brimstone and I hoped that it being Mother's Day would offer me some sort of protection.  I ended up with 25 species including a few migrants like Black-headed Grosbeak and Green-tailed Towhee.

Later in the day Bobby came over and Bob cooked a wonderful Mothers Day dinner of green Thai curry.  Yum Yum.
